Preparations for the preparation of Russian cosmonauts for the effects of hypomagnetism and weightlessness, radioprotectors (preparations for protection against radiation) will be actively used by the 2030s. This opinion was expressed by TASS Executive Director of Roscosmos for Advanced Programs and Science Alexander Bloshenko.
"Really, by the horizon of the 2030s, we will be using with might and main some drugs that will more intensively prepare a person for hypomagnetism and for the effects of weightlessness, as well as protect him from radiation," said Bloshenko.
The executive director of Roscosmos clarified that during a flight in space, blood circulation and the heart work differently, the balance of potassium-magnesium substances, ion exchange is disturbed, calcium is washed out of bones. It is planned to solve these problems in the future with the help of special drugs. "We have completed the formation of the terms of reference in order to put the work together with a large cooperation with the IBMP, the FMBA, medical institutes that conduct research work," the specialist explained.
According to Bloshenko, humanity is close to technology, when it will be possible to change the properties of the body for a limited period with the help of genetic or cellular engineering.
Earlier, Bloshenko told TASS that Roscosmos plans in 2021 to study the question of how to change the human body for deep space flights at the level of genetic engineering and cellular technologies.
