The ships of the Caspian Flotilla left the base in Makhachkala and Kaspiysk, and went to sea to conduct command and staff exercises. About 20 corvettes and support vessels participate in the maneuvers.
The main striking force is represented by the Dagestan frigate, as well as the Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich, Veliky Ustyug and Makhachkala corvettes, which carry Kalibr-NK cruise missiles.
Recall that on October 7, 2015, the ships of the Caspian Flotilla launched a missile attack on militant targets in Syria. After flying one and a half thousand kilometers, the missiles destroyed weapons factories, communication centers, ammunition depots and fuel of terrorists.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, in the open sea, the crews of artillery boats and minesweepers will work out the tasks of mine protection during the deployment and anti-submarine sabotage defense of ships in the raid.
"The military sailors of the Caspian Flotilla will search for mines using contact trawls and work out their destruction with the execution of live firing from standard weapons," the military department noted.
After that, the corvettes of the Caspian Flotilla will work out sailing in a single marching order, repel an air attack and conduct a training naval battle. The maneuvers will end with practical rocket and artillery firing.
The military department noted that the exercises in the Caspian Sea are part of the planned training of the Russian Navy. In total, more than 140 ships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft and about 10 thousand military personnel are involved in the events in all fleets.
