ROSTOV-ON-DON, February 17. /tass/. About 20 warships and support vessels of the Caspian Flotilla set sail from Makhachkala to participate in large-scale exercises. This was reported to journalists on Thursday in the press service of the Southern Military District (SE).

"A heterogeneous grouping of the naval forces of the Caspian Flotilla left the base of Makhachkala to the designated area of the Caspian Sea to participate in a planned command and staff exercise. <...> In total, the crews of about 20 warships of the flotilla take part in the naval command and staff exercise, including the Dagestan missile ship, the small rocket ships Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich, Veliky Ustyug, Makhachkala, Astrakhan, Stupinets, small artillery ships, base minesweepers, boats, as well as support vessels," the message says.

The military sailors will have to perform a number of combat training tasks in difficult conditions and act on various introductory instructions coming from the flotilla command post, the press service noted. In the open sea, the crews of artillery boats and minesweepers will work out the tasks of mine protection, deployment of flotilla forces and anti-submarine sabotage defense when parked on the roadstead. In addition, the sailors will search for mines and practice their destruction with the execution of live firing.

In the near future, as noted in the press service, the ship's tactical groups will have to repel an air attack by a conditional enemy, work out conducting a training naval battle, as well as perform practical rocket and artillery firing.

In January-February of this year, the Russian Navy conducts a series of exercises. The sailors train actions to protect Russian interests in the world ocean and to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from the sea and ocean. More than 140 warships and support vessels, over 60 aircraft, 1 thousand units of military equipment, about 10 thousand military personnel were involved in the exercises on all fleets.
