Sergey Kotelevsky, head of the Kurganmashzavod R&D Department, said that the new version of the Octopus amphibious vehicle is radically different from its first generation
MOSCOW, February 13. /tass/. The updated version of the airborne self-propelled anti-tank gun "Octopus" based on the latest BMD-4 has a unique fire control system. This was announced on Sunday on the air of the program "Military Acceptance" on the Zvezda TV channel by Sergey Kotelevsky, head of the Kurganmashzavod R&D Department.
"If the senior chief has found a target, and the car does not see it, he can give instructions here from another car, and it automatically points the barrel at this target," Kotelevsky explained the principle of operation of the unique complex.
According to him, this principle has not been implemented in any other car yet. "This car is the first one that has confirmed this possibility at state tests," he stressed.
"At the touch of a button [the commander's] tower is thrown (turns - approx. TASS) and the barrel is automatically directed to the target, the gunner can only press the ammunition selection button and fire," said the head of the R&D department.
According to Kotelevsky, the new version of the amphibious machine "Octopus" is radically different from its first generation. "There is a different power plant, transmission, the chassis information and control system is installed here, the software and hardware complex is the most modern at the moment, and most importantly, a new sighting system is installed here," he stressed.
"The commander got the opportunity to hit lightly armored vehicles and enemy infantry himself," Kotelevsky also noted the appearance of an additional remotely controlled machine gun on the new Octopus.
Amphibious and floating "Octopus"
The upgraded Octopus combat vehicle manufactured by PJSC Kurganmashzavod (part of JSC NPO High-Precision Complexes of Rostec State Corporation) is an aircraft-mounted self-propelled anti-tank gun. With a mass of about 18 tons, the updated Octopus has a 125 mm 2A75 tank cannon, as well as two machine guns. The car's armor is aluminum and protects it from small arms fragments and bullets. The combat vehicle can not only parachute with the crew, but also overcome water obstacles, firing on the move.
