In the waters of the Gulf of Finland, the diesel-electric icebreaker Buran, assigned to the Leningrad Naval Base of the Baltic Fleet, conducted an ice break. This is necessary to maintain the readiness of warships and the navigation of civilian vessels. You can watch the work of the icebreaker on video.
According to the press service of the Western Military District, the average thickness of ice in this area reaches 40 centimeters. So the work on the fence was already necessary. And Buran constantly accompanies warships to the Baltic Sea and helps civilian vessels free of charge.
In addition, in the waters of the Gulf of Finland, the crews of the icebreaker "Buran" and the raid tugboat RB-393 rescued the tugboat from ice captivity during the exercises.
Buran is a diesel-electric icebreaker of Project 97. It operates in a difficult ice environment. On their basis, border patrol ships and auxiliary icebreakers for the Russian Navy have been created.
