In December of this year, the Northern Fleet will replenish the newest frigate of project 22350 "Admiral Golovko". He will become the first full-time carrier of the Zircon hypersonic system.
According to Izvestia sources in the Ministry of Defense, the work plan for the final stage of the ship's construction has been approved. Currently, the ship's crew is completing training and preparing to pass the final inspection. In autumn, the sailors will begin testing the frigate at sea. They are scheduled to be completed in December.
According to sources, Admiral Golovko will be based in Severomorsk. The construction of a berth and infrastructure for the frigate is being completed there. It is assumed that it will become part of the 43rd Division of missile ships of the Northern Fleet (SF). This compound is the main striking force of the SF. It includes the largest and most powerful combat units, in particular, the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov and the flagship of the Northern Fleet - the nuclear missile cruiser Peter the Great.
In the spring of last year, the commander-in-chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, announced that the frigates of project 22350 would become the first full-time carriers of hypersonic weapons. In particular, it was the lead ship of this series, Admiral Gorshkov, that tested the new Zircon system, including the first practical launches.
Admiral Golovko will be the third representative of Project 22350. The series was launched in 2006. The lead ship "Admiral Gorshkov" was transferred to the fleet in 2018, the next one - "Admiral Kasatonov" - was commissioned in July last year.
In total, according to the plan, eight frigates of the "admiral series", as they are called in the navy, should be created. Admiral Isakov is currently at the final stage, work is underway on the construction of Admiral Chichagov. In 2020, Admiral Spiridonov and Admiral Yumashev were laid down, two more ships are planned to be laid this year.
