Despite his busy schedule, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu found time on Wednesday to visit the museum of military uniforms of the Russian Military Historical Society. It was opened in the capital in December 2019 to preserve and popularize the best traditions of our army.
Together with Shoigu, Vladimir Medinsky, assistant to the President of the country, and Sergey Ivanov, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Military Historical Society, permanent member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, got acquainted with the exhibits of the museum telling about the five-century history of Russian army uniforms and ammunition.
The exposition is located in 22 halls of the old Moscow estate of the Vasilchikov family. There are items of uniforms and equipment of the Russian Imperial Army, the Soviet Army and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. As well as numerous archival materials, reconstructions of military uniforms made on the basis of authentic samples. The museum is based on more than 280 rare exhibits transferred to the Russian Military Historical Society from the Moscow branch of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The guests, in particular, got acquainted with the new exhibition project "Save for posterity". There are collected authentic samples of the military uniforms of our Navy from 1918 to 1992.
Shoigu and his colleagues were also interested in models of sculptures of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, a great admirer of military-style clothing. His sculptures in military uniform were created in several art studios over the years, including the Studio of Military Artists named after Grekov.
