MOSCOW, Feb 9 - RIA Novosti. Divers of the Black Sea Fleet conducted an exercise to repel underwater saboteurs, during which they had to practice underwater knife fighting techniques and underwater firefight, the information support department of the Black Sea Fleet reported.
"In the Novorossiysk naval base of the Black Sea Fleet, a planned special exercise was held on the organization of anti-submarine and sabotage defense of the ships' basing point," the message says.
"After the discovery of a simulated enemy, divers during a simulated battle with saboteurs practiced underwater combat techniques with the use of cold weapons and shooting from special underwater pistols SPP-1," the Black Sea Fleet clarified.
According to the plan of the exercise, underwater saboteurs tried to penetrate the ships in the military harbor. The servicemen of the anti-submarine sabotage squad had to counteract them. A remote-controlled underwater vehicle "Marlin-350" was used to search for saboteurs.
Also, the Black Sea divers conducted an anti-sabotage inspection of the underwater part of the submarine hull, as well as the seabed under it, where the enemy could also conduct his activities.
"Due to adverse weather conditions and strong sea waves, the exercise was conducted at a training complex in a special pool," the department said.
Units for combating underwater sabotage forces and means are designed to ensure the protection of ships and submarines of the fleet from sabotage and reconnaissance units of the enemy. They are armed with high-speed boats and boats of the "Grachonok" and "Raptor" type, modern models of diving equipment, sonar instruments and special weapons for combat, both on land and under water.
