A source in the Russian Defense Ministry said that new units with the Pantsir missile defense system will be formed in the Southern Military District
New units and units of the mobile air defense Reserve will be formed in the Southern Military District (SE), which will cover the south of Russia and the Caucasus. The military will receive anti-aircraft missile and cannon complexes (ZRPC) "Pantsir". Izvestia writes about this, referring to sources in the Russian Defense Ministry.
Sources of the publication reported that the defense department has already decided to create new units. The publication noted that the reserve air defense units take part in working out actions in case of a military threat.
According to military expert Vladislav Shurygin, the Pantsir missile defense system remains one of the most effective means of combating drones. The advantage of the complexes is mobility. Also, the "Shell" received a special ammunition to combat unmanned vehicles.
In January, the publication 19FortyFive told about the capabilities of the upgraded Pantsir-SM complex. ZRPC received a new radar with an active phased array antenna, which increased the target detection range to 75 kilometers.
