The process of re-equipping Russian nuclear-powered ships with the latest torpedoes will begin after they are fully equipped with diesel-electric submarines of the Varshavyanka and Lada types
MOSCOW, February 6. /tass/. Promising electric torpedoes UET-1 in the coming years will enter service with Russian nuclear submarines of a number of projects. This was reported to TASS by a source in the military-industrial complex.
"In the near future, it is planned to arm some nuclear submarine projects with the latest UET-1 torpedoes," he said.
The interlocutor of the agency noted that the process of re-equipping Russian nuclear-powered ships with the latest torpedoes will begin after they are fully equipped with diesel-electric submarines of the Varshavyanka type (project 636.3) and Lada (project 677).
TASS has no official information on this matter.
Earlier, TASS reported that the production of UET-1 torpedoes will increase from 2023. In 2018, it was reported that by 2023, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will purchase 73 electric torpedoes of this type.
The UET-1 is a new universal electric torpedo of 533 mm caliber with improved combat and technical characteristics. It replaced the obsolete homing electric torpedo USET-80. The torpedo has a higher speed and a better ability to detect underwater targets. Among the features of the new product is the ability to detect the wake of surface ships and the ability to smoothly adjust the speed.
