The units of the military air defense (air defense) and operational-tactical aviation of the Western Military District (ZVO) conducted exercises, within the framework of which they were convinced of the security of the western borders of the Russian Federation. This was announced by the commander of the ZVO troops, Hero of Russia, Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev.
"The purpose of the exercise has been achieved. The air defense in the area of responsibility of the Military District reliably protects the western borders of Russia," said Zhuravlev, whose words are quoted in the press service of the Military District.
It is specified that 40 units of weapons, military, special and aviation equipment of the Far East, in particular Su-34 fighter-bombers, were involved in the exercises.
"Servicemen of anti-aircraft missile units marched on regular military equipment to designated areas in order to deploy control points to detect air threats and repel a simulated enemy air raid that violated the air borders of the Russian Federation," the press service added.
