Next year, the airborne and amphibious assault divisions of the Russian Army will begin to receive mobile air defense systems "Birdman". This is reported in the material by I. Borovkov "Air defense for "winged infantry", published in the February issue of the magazine of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation "Army Collection".
It is planned that these short-range weapons will be equipped with batteries of anti-aircraft missile regiments of formations.
Like most of the modern equipment of the Russian airborne forces, the novelty is created on the platform of the BMD-4M "Sadovnitsa" landing combat vehicle. Its combat weight is 13600 kg, the maximum speed on the highway is 70 km / h, afloat - 10 km / h.
The module of the perspective complex "Sosna" will be installed on it. Earlier, at the international military-technical forums "Army" taking place in the Moscow region, this product has already been demonstrated on the lightly armored MT-LB transporter, the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle and the BTR-82A armored personnel carrier.
It is reported that the "Birdman" has an impressive onboard supply of weapons of destruction: twelve anti-aircraft guided missiles. They are capable of destroying various unmanned aerial vehicles, combat and transport helicopters, attack aircraft, cruise missiles and even multiple rocket launchers.
The range reaches 10000 meters, the height is 5000 meters. It is reported that one such SAM is twelve times more effective than calculating a conventional portable anti-aircraft complex.
The SAM will be equipped with a combined weapons control system and will be able to monitor the air situation within a radius of 16 km.
In the course of the tasks, it is planned to land the combat vehicle with the available parachute systems capable of safely "landing" up to 18,000 kg of cargo.
Earlier it was reported that self-propelled artillery and anti-tank installations, reconnaissance and other versions will also appear on the BMD-4M chassis.
