MOSCOW, January 29 - RIA Novosti. The heavy nuclear missile cruiser "Peter the Great" has worked out the air defense of the main base of the Northern Fleet, the press service of the fleet told reporters.
"As part of the exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group, which is being conducted under the leadership of the commander of the Northern Fleet of the Hero of Russia Admiral Alexander Moiseev, the crew of the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Peter the Great conducted an air defense exercise of the main base of the Northern Fleet – Severomorsk," the press service said.
The issues of maintaining the combat readiness of anti-aircraft missile weapons and radio equipment of the ship were worked out, the level of training of combat crews was checked.
The exercises were held directly at the base. According to the legend of the maneuvers, the cruiser repelled the attack of the conventional enemy's air attack on the ships and the fleet headquarters.
The Peter the Great is equipped with the Fort anti-aircraft missile system, a naval analogue of the S-300 land-based anti-aircraft missile system, and is capable of providing air defense of ship connections at sea, as well as at bases with a radius of hitting air targets up to 100 kilometers.
