MOSCOW, January 27. /tass/. The Russian Defense Ministry will build a new complex of the Onega Shipyard in Karelia, the laying of a memorial stone took place on Thursday, the commissioning of the facility is planned in 2024, the military department told reporters.
"Specialists of the Military Construction Company (VSK) of the Ministry of Defense of Russia will build a new production complex for the Onega Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant in the capital of the Republic of Karelia, Petrozavodsk," the message says.
It is noted that on January 27, a solemn ceremony of laying a memorial stone in the foundation of the new construction took place at the site of the plant. Military builders will have to build new blocks of hull workshops, a data processing center, a compressor station, a technical gas station and treatment facilities.
As the head of the VSK project Management Sergey Gorsky noted, after the commissioning of the new industrial unit, the plant's capacity will increase 10 times. "The enterprise will be able to switch to a single digital control system, which will certainly bring shipbuilding in the region to a higher level," the Defense Ministry quoted Gorsky as saying.
The project is implemented within the framework of the Shipbuilding Industry Development Strategy for the period up to 2035 and the state program of the Russian Federation "Development of shipbuilding and equipment for the development of offshore fields". The commissioning of the modern complex of the Onega Shipyard is scheduled for 2024.
Earlier, specialists of the Russian Defense Ministry in Petrozavodsk have already built a presidential cadet school and the first passenger terminal of the Besovets airport.
