The experience of military conflicts in North Africa and the Middle East led to the development of the Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and cannon complex. Thanks to a more sensitive radar and new missiles, the complex has significantly increased the target area, including drones at low altitudes.
According to the publication 19FortyFive, an improved radar with a phased array antenna on the "Shell-CM" increases the maximum target detection range to 75 kilometers.
The anti-aircraft complex also received a new missile with a range of 40 kilometers and a strike height of about 17 kilometers. The speed of the missile has increased, which makes it possible to intercept targets moving at speeds up to Mach 2.9, or one kilometer per second.
As a result, the updated "Shell" will be able to threaten even supersonic aircraft and intercept the attacks of supersonic ground-based missiles. They plan to use other smaller-caliber missiles to defeat artisanal UAVs.
"A greater distance of detection and destruction of air targets will allow the "Shell" to push inconspicuous unmanned aerial vehicles beyond the effective range of observation," the publication notes.
Simply put: the drones will be destroyed before they enter the zone of use of their own weapons and surveillance equipment.
