Tallinn. January 26. INTERFAX - Germany's decision on the possibility of transferring German-made 122-mm howitzers to Ukraine will be prepared and transferred to Estonia in the near future, German Ambassador to Tallinn Christiana Hochmann said.
"Berlin is currently processing this request, but since we have a strict approach to arms policy, it is still under consideration, as it has to go through several instances. And this process is continuing right now," Hochmann told Estonian television on Wednesday.
"Unfortunately, I cannot speculate on the final answer, we need to wait for the opinions of different authorities. I can say that the answer will come in days or weeks, not months," she added.
The German Defense Ministry confirmed that the issue is under negotiation and is subject to discussion with Finland, which was once the owner of the weapon.
Estonia intends to send Ukraine American Javelin anti-tank missiles and 122-millimeter howitzers. However, before making a final decision, the supply of weapons must be allowed in the country of origin. Last week, the United States allowed Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to supply Ukraine with their Javelins. Currently, Estonia is waiting for a similar permit from the former owners of howitzers in Finland and Germany.
