SEVASTOPOL, January 26 - RIA Novosti. The ships of the Black Sea Fleet conducted air defense training during the exercises, the press service of the fleet said.

"The crews of the Admiral Essen frigate, the Ladny patrol ship, the Grayvoron and Ingushetia small missile ships, the Naberezhnye Chelny and R-60 missile boats as part of tactical groups completed air defense tasks during a bilateral exercise with the crews of fighter aircraft of the Air Force and Air Defense Association of the Southern Military District," the website states.

The ship's air defense calculations found and took the targets for escort, then after determining the air objects as "opponents" conditionally destroyed the aircraft before they entered the combat course.

As noted in the press service, protection from mines of ships during the maneuvers was provided by the crews of the minesweepers "Ivan Golubets", "Ivan Antonov" and "Valentin Pikul".

In total, more than 20 warships are participating in the maneuvers as part of heterogeneous groups, naval strike and search and strike groups, as well as a detachment of amphibious ships that left naval bases in Sevastopol and Novorossiysk today.

A series of naval exercises under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Admiral Nikolai Evmenov takes place in January and February. Their main focus is the development of actions to protect Russian national interests in the World Ocean, as well as to counter military threats from sea and ocean directions.

Earlier, ships of the Northern and Baltic fleets began maneuvers, and in total, according to the ministry, it is planned to attract more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, a thousand units of military equipment and about 10 thousand military personnel.

The exercises will take place both in the Russian seas and in operationally important areas of the World Ocean: in the Mediterranean, Northern, Okhotsk Seas, in the northeastern Atlantic and in the Pacific Ocean.
