SEVEROMORSK, January 26. /tass/. The ships of the Northern Fleet sailed to the Barents Sea as part of exercises with the Arctic Expeditionary Group of forces and troops. This was reported to journalists in the press service of the fleet.

"A detachment of warships and support vessels of the Northern Fleet went to the Barents Sea as part of the exercise with the Arctic Expeditionary Group of forces and troops," the navy said.

It is noted that during the exercises, a detachment of warships will work out issues of interaction of diverse fleet forces in jointly solving tasks to ensure the safety of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation in the northern seas in the event of crisis situations.

The navy clarified that the detachment includes the missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, the frigate Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov, the large anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov, as well as support vessels.

Exercises in the World Ocean

In accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for 2022, a series of naval exercises are held in January-February in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the Navy and Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the world Ocean, as well as to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from sea and ocean directions.

The exercises will cover the waters of the seas adjacent to the Russian territory, as well as operationally important areas of the World Ocean. Separate exercises will be held in the waters of the Mediterranean, Northern, Okhotsk Seas, in the north-eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

In total, it is planned to attract more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1 thousand units of military equipment, about 10 thousand military personnel to participate in the events.
