MOSCOW, January 25. /tass/. There is only one launch pad for Soyuz-2 launch vehicles at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. This was announced by the General Director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin on Tuesday.
"We are taking a very serious risk, we have no technical reservation for the 31st site, there is only one position for the Soyuz-2 launches [at Baikonur]," Rogozin said during a plenary session within the XLVI Academic Readings on Cosmonautics in memory of S. P. Korolev (Royal Readings).
According to the head of Roscosmos, there are already ideas on how to solve the problem. "And then we will implement this idea," Rogozin said, explaining that it will take two years.
There are also two active launches for Proton-M launch vehicles at Baikonur, the general director of the state corporation said.
In the future, Site No. 1 (Gagarin Launch), the oldest launch pad at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, may be adapted for Soyuz-2 launches. The Vostok spacecraft with the world's first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on board, left it on April 12, 1961. It is currently mothballed.
Soyuz rockets are currently being launched from four cosmodromes - Baikonur, Plesetsk, Vostochny and Kuru.
