MIC: Russian RB-341B "Leer-3" complexes could be used in Kazakhstan
The Russian electronic warfare (EW) complex RB-341B "Leer-3" by creating a "fake base station" can intercept traffic control and user connections. This is told by the "Military-Industrial Courier" (MIC), referring to the CEO of the analytical company Telecom Daily Denis Kuskov.
The publication notes that in this way the operator RB-341B "Leer-3" gets "the ability to generate calls and SMS messages to all subscribers entering its area of operation."
According to the data, the RB-341B "Leer-3" complexes could have been used in a recent counter-terrorism operation in Kazakhstan.
According to Natalia Kaspersky, president of the InfoWatch group of companies, RB-341B "Leer-3" drones (Orlan-10 are used) simultaneously provide effective blocking of enemy mobile phones and preserve the possibility of stable operation of their devices.
"Theoretically, such systems are even able to determine the numbers dialed in the area of the virtual base station, allowing their own and blocking other people's calls. The developer does not exclude the possibility of remote switching on and off of user devices, however, in a very limited range zone," Kaspersky assures.
According to the MIC, transmitters with a power of two and ten watts that ensure the operation of the "fake station" can block the subscriber equipment of three mobile operators in an area with a range of up to six kilometers, which allows, in particular, to transmit information to two thousand subscriber terminals.
In September 2019, Izvestia wrote that the Russian RB-341B "Leer-3" electronic warfare system would be able to find the enemy by a cell phone signal and direct shock weapons at him in real time.
