Forbes: Ukrainian air defense is not capable of resisting "Russian aggression"
The air defense of Ukraine is not capable of resisting "Russian aggression". This was pointed out by Forbes columnist David Ax.
He explained that the strategic Tu-22M3, Tu-95 and Tu-160 of the Russian Aerospace Forces are armed with long-range cruise missiles, and the aircraft will not even need to cross the border. This makes the Ukrainian air defense system useless.
According to Aksa, the Russian army has traditionally given priority in the development of anti-ship missiles. However, now there is a 2.5-ton X-101 missile in service, which has successfully proved itself against terrorists in Syria.
"Theoretically, it is possible to shoot down cruise missiles. But this is not feasible. Every time the Americans struck with cruise missiles, most of them passed by the air defense. This means that the only protection that works is passive protection. To survive under the missile onslaught, you need to move while it is possible and dig in when it is impossible," the author of the material summed up.
On January 19, Ukraine's ambassador to Berlin, Andriy Melnyk, demanded that Germany hand over modern air defense systems to Kiev, in which it has a "huge need." The diplomat stressed that Kiev needs weapons for defense. He accused Germany of a lack of political will, and said that this was regrettable against the background of "the acute danger of war in Europe."
In recent months, statements have been made in Kiev and in the West about the threat of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Kremlin denies the existence of such plans. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova noted that, hiding behind words about the imminent invasion, Kiev and the West are preparing their own provocations.
