More than 140 ships and 60 aircraft will participate in the exercises of the Russian Navy in January-February in all areas of responsibility of the fleets. This was announced on Thursday, January 20, by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The ministry also clarified that it is planned to involve about 10 thousand military personnel in the exercises.
"In accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for 2022, a series of naval exercises are held in January-February in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov...> The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the Navy and Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the world Ocean, as well as to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from sea and ocean directions," the ministry noted.
A number of Naval maneuvers will take place in the sea areas that are adjacent to the territory of Russia, the Defense Ministry said. It is specified that the exercises will also be held in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the Okhotsk, Northern and Mediterranean Seas.
Earlier in the day, the Russian submarine Volkhov launched a Kalibr cruise missile at a ground target in the waters of the Sea of Japan.
It was noted that at the estimated time, the missile hit a coastal target on the tactical field of Surkum in the Khabarovsk Territory.
The firing was carried out by ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles of naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet. As indicated in the department, the missile firing range is more than 1 thousand km.
On January 18, it became known that Russia, Iran and China will hold joint naval exercises.
On January 17, a detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet consisting of the Guards Order of Nakhimov of the Varyag missile cruiser, the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Tributs and the large sea tanker Boris Butoma have already anchored at the roadstead of the port of Chahbehar in Iran.
It is planned that during the exercises the ships will visit the seas of several states. In addition, Russian vessels will replenish food, water and fuel supplies. A detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet went on a long voyage from Vladivostok at the end of December last year.
