MOSCOW, January 20 - RIA Novosti. The multipurpose nuclear submarine Kazan (Yasen-M, project 885-M) has become the lowest-noise submarine in the Russian Navy, the general director of the Sevmash plant (Severodvinsk) said Mikhail Budnichenko in an interview with the magazine "Plant" ("Sevmash").

The Kazan submarine was accepted into the combat fleet in 2021.

"For the first time, advanced information technologies have been introduced in the ship's electronic armament, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency and quality of combat control. The Kazan nuclear submarine is full of modern equipment and computer equipment. It has new characteristics in terms of physical fields, maneuverability. Today it is the lowest-noise submarine of the Russian Navy. The Kazan submarine is a huge step into the future, a cruiser of the XXI century," Budnichenko said.

According to him, even in comparison with the lead missile carrier of the Yasen project Severodvinsk, Kazan has significant differences in characteristics.

Budnichenko recalled that Alexander Antonov, the general designer of the Malakhit Design Bureau (project developer), with whom he worked closely on this ship, stressed that a new direction was implemented in this project — the intellectualization of combat operations.

Currently, the Russian Navy has three boats of the Yasen and Yasen-M projects: Severodvinsk, Kazan and Novosibirsk. There are six more at various stages of construction: Krasnoyarsk, Arkhangelsk, Perm, Ulyanovsk, Voronezh and Vladivostok.

The submarines of the Yasen-M project are distinguished by a displacement of 9.5/ 13.8 thousand tons. Their dimensions are 119x12x9.4 meters. The maximum diving depth is 600 meters. The speed is 15/30 knots. The crew is 85 people. It is armed with eight launchers for Onyx, Caliber and Zircon missiles, as well as 10 torpedo tubes for 32 missiles and 30 torpedoes.
