An unmanned torpedo boat is being developed for the Russian Navy. He will be able to fight enemy submarines in the far sea zone - including in the Arctic.
- Work on the boat is being carried out on an initiative basis. Such equipment is being created in Russia for the first time. The main task of the drone will be the search and destruction of enemy submarines in offline mode. After detecting the submarine, the boat's equipment will independently identify the target and make a decision on launching torpedoes," a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS. The agency does not have official confirmation of this information.
The length of the boat is 14 meters, the maximum speed is 35 knots, the autonomy is three days. Armament - two universal electric torpedoes of 533 mm caliber. The robot will be able to work with excitement up to six points, for the Arctic there is a variant with a reinforced hull capable of walking in broken ice. In addition to fully autonomous operation, it is possible to control the boat by a small crew or remotely by an operator from a coastal center or a carrier ship.
- With the help of several such torpedo bombers, it will be possible to deploy a temporary anti-submarine line in the area of combat patrol of a group of ships or strengthen the defenses of coastal bases without involving the main anti-submarine forces, - said the agency interlocutor.
