China has extended the construction of a series of its own Type 055 destroyers. They are the largest surface ships in the People's Liberation Army of the People's Republic of China and are considered the most combat-ready destroyers in the world.
Military Watch writes about this. China already has two destroyers of this series - of them the lead ship of the Nanchang project and the first serial. They are based at a naval base in Qingdao in Shandong Province. The publication notes that the Type 055 is second only to the American ship Zumwalt in power and combat capability and surpasses the destroyers Arleigh Burke and the cruisers Ticonderoga.
Each Chinese destroyer has an arsenal of 112 launchers. In addition to its firepower, the Type 055 is distinguished by advanced stealth capabilities. This provides an advantage in situational awareness compared to Western, Japanese and Russian ships.
According to the publication, China is building at least two more destroyers, which indicates that their number can be increased to ten. The Type 055 is expected to play a central role in escorting strike groups of Chinese aircraft carriers, including super-aircraft carriers currently under construction with advanced electromagnetic catapult systems. All this indicates the transformation of China into one of the leading naval powers in the world.
