Moscow. January 14th. INTERFAX-AVN - A sudden check of combat readiness has begun in the Eastern Military District with the deployment of a number of units and formations to landfills at a considerable distance from their locations, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"In preparation for the strategic command and staff exercise Vostok-2022, a sudden check of combat readiness is being carried out in the troops of the Eastern Military District," the report says.
"During the inspection, units and military units of the Eastern Military District carry out a set of measures to bring them to the highest degrees of combat readiness with access to concentration areas," the report says.
"A number of formations and military units of the Eastern Military District, as part of a surprise check, are marching in a combined way to unfamiliar landfills located at a considerable distance from permanent deployment points to perform combat training tasks," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The ongoing activities will allow us to assess the readiness of the troops of the Eastern Military District to perform tasks for their intended purpose after regrouping over long distances across the territory of the Russian Federation," the message says.
The Russian Military Department on Friday distributed a video of the start of a surprise inspection of the troops of the Eastern Military District. In the footage, the military is loading armored vehicles, in particular, tanks and armored personnel carriers, as well as vehicles on railway echelons.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated: "Special attention will be paid to assessing the capabilities of the state's transport infrastructure to ensure the transportation of troops in a timely manner."
"In the designated areas, the units of the Eastern Military District will have to work out a wide range of tasks for the organization of comprehensive support and perform control and test exercises on combat training subjects with tactical exercises and live firing at remote ranges," the report says.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation did not specify where the troops are being transferred during the sudden inspection of the Eastern Military District.
The Eastern Military District includes units and formations in Transbaikalia and the Far East.
