TSAMTO, January 14. The Baltic Plant (part of the USC) has completed the construction of the first serial universal nuclear icebreaker project 22220 "Siberia": on January 12, the vessel departed from the mooring wall of the enterprise and headed to the home port in Murmansk.
The signing of the icebreaker acceptance and transfer act took place on December 24. It was preceded by a series of ship trips to sea to fulfill the program of factory sea trials. It is expected that the transition from St. Petersburg to Murmansk, which will be performed by the crew of the newest nuclear-powered vessel, will take about a week. After arriving at the home port, the vessel will start working on the routes of the Northern Sea Route.
The universal nuclear icebreaker "Siberia" is the second vessel of the project 22220, built at the Baltic Plant. The ceremony of its laying took place on May 26, 2015. The launch took place on September 22, 2017. Today, the company is building three more nuclear-powered ships of the project - these are the icebreakers "Ural", "Yakutia" and "Chukotka".
The universal nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 are the largest and most powerful icebreaking vessels in the world. Their main task is to ensure year-round navigation in the Arctic. The vessels of this project in the coming years should become the basis of the civil icebreaking fleet of Russia.
