On Friday, January 14, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu congratulated the pipeline troops on their professional holiday.
He noted that the servicemen honorably perform their official duty and contribute to strengthening the country's defense potential. "The personnel of the troops have repeatedly proved their professionalism and readiness to act in the most difficult conditions," the Defense Minister stressed.
Shoigu recalled the most striking pages in the history of the pipeline troops. These are the fulfillment of a combat mission to supply fuel to a limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan, participation in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, the earthquake in Armenia, and in extinguishing forest fires in 1972 and 2010. And, of course, the deployment in 2014-2015 and 2019-2020 of hundreds of kilometers of pipeline lines to supply fresh water to cities and other settlements of the Crimea.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said that pipeline troops are part of the logistics system of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Military pipeliners perform tasks to ensure the continuous delivery of fuel over considerable distances. These troops are armed with collapsible field trunk pipelines, pipe-fitting equipment, other means of mechanization of work, as well as special vehicles and communications equipment.
