During the modernization, the multipurpose nuclear cruisers of the project 949AM "Antey" will receive 72 launchers of the Kalibr, Onyx and Zircon cruise missiles.
- In fact, the Antei will become the most armed carriers of cruise missiles in the submarine fleet of the Russian Navy. The total ammunition of each submarine of the 949AM project will be about 100 units of missile, torpedo and rocket-torpedo weapons," a source in the shipbuilding industry told RIA Novosti.
The first submarine to be upgraded under the 949AM project was the Irkutsk Pacific Fleet submarine - its repair at the Zvezda Far Eastern plant is scheduled to be completed in 2022. The Chelyabinsk submarine will be the next to be upgraded - also from the TOPF.
"Anteyam" is no stranger to the status of the most armed. In the basic version, these submarines are armed with 24 launchers of heavy cruise missiles "Granite" - despite the fact that the flagship of the Northern Fleet, the nuclear cruiser "Peter the Great" carries only 20 "Granites". In addition, six torpedo tubes are installed on the submarine.
