Because of their technical features, they are called "flying"
TASS, January 11. Military units of the Eastern Military District (VVO) on the Kuril Islands received a batch of upgraded T-80BV tanks, which are called "flying" due to technical features, the press service of the district reported on Tuesday.
"In 2021, the military units of the Army Corps of the Eastern Military District (VVO) stationed on the Kuril Islands received a batch of modern modernized T-80BV tanks. A distinctive feature of the T-80 family of tanks is a single gas turbine power plant, for which it was called a "flying" tank," the report says.
This car is capable of accelerating to a speed of more than 70 km/h. The equipment has proven itself well when operating in extreme Arctic conditions, this largely corresponds to the harsh winters of the island region. In addition, due to the installed modern equipment, including multi-channel gunner sights, weapon stabilizers, surveillance devices, radio stations, as well as modular dynamic protection, the effectiveness of the use of tank units in solving combat training tasks is significantly increased.
Before the arrival of modern combat vehicles in the compound, tank crews mastered the equipment on simulators, and after its commissioning, practical driving exercises were conducted with the performance of control firing.
