Ilya Samarin, General Director of the Baltic Shipbuilding Plant, said that the sixth building of Project 11356 is currently mothballed and is located in the water area of the enterprise
MOSCOW, January 10. /tass/. The final decision on the fate of the sixth frigate of Project 11356 built by the Baltic Shipbuilding Plant "Yantar" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) has not yet been made. This was stated to TASS by the general director of the PSZ Ilya Samarin.
"The sixth building of project 11356 is currently mothballed and is located in the water area of the plant, no final decision has been made," he said, answering the question whether the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has decided on the fate of the sixth building of this project.
The initial plans assumed the construction of six frigates of Project 11356 for the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) of Russia. However, these plans had to be adjusted after Ukraine refused to supply power plants. As a result, the Black Sea Fleet received three frigates of this project, three hulls were launched.
In 2018, a contract was signed, according to which PSZ will complete two hulls for the Indian Navy, two more with Russian participation will be built at the Indian shipyard Goa Shipyard Ltd. The gas turbine units were directly purchased by India in Ukraine and will be supplied to Yantar by the Indian government. The first two ships built by the PSZ are planned to be transferred to the Indian Navy in 2023 and 2024.
In the Russian version of Project 11356, each frigate carries two universal ship firing complexes for eight Kalibr-NK and/or Onyx missiles. Indian frigates will be armed with Russian-Indian-made BrahMos anti-ship missiles. On the Russian side, the Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering (part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation) participates in the joint venture of the same name.
Earlier, PSZ and Baltic Plant built six frigates of Project 11356 for the Indian Navy.
