Servicemen of the mountain motorized rifle brigade of the Southern Military District, stationed in Karachay-Cherkessia, received more than 50 sets of modern climbing equipment.
The head of the press service of the Southern Military District, Colonel Vadim Astafyev, said that each set of special equipment includes over 80 elements. These are snowshoes, ice axes, mountain and rock hammers, harnesses, ropes, climbing tents, sleeping bags, downhill skis, suits, boots, backpacks and other property necessary to perform tasks in difficult mountainous terrain.
"The military personnel of the mountain division of the Southern Military District regularly hone their skills at exercises in the mountains of the North Caucasus, and also perform reconnaissance and search tasks in the highlands," Astafyev said.
Earlier it was reported that located in the village of Storozheva at an altitude of more than 2 thousand meters above sea level, this mountain motorized rifle brigade is known for having the only pack transport platoon in the Russian army. There, the military uses horses specially trained for such service.
Very hardy horses of the Karachai breed have been selected to perform tasks in the mountains. They are perfectly oriented on the terrain. They are able to make long transitions on rocks and mountain trails in bundles. With their help, mountain riflemen deliver some types of weapons, ammunition, food, equipment, and other military goods to hard-to-reach places. In a day, one bunch of four horses can carry up to 250 kilograms of payload over the mountains.
But this, of course, does not cancel the special requirements for the soldiers and officers of the brigade. All of them are good climbers and know how to operate in the mountains. To perform various tasks there, mountain motorized infantry are provided with special equipment.
