The Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of Russia reported that the icebreaker of the 21180M project was built at the Almaz Shipbuilding Company. A number of domestic innovative solutions have been introduced in the design and construction.
The increase in the number of icebreakers is associated with Russia's active development of the Arctic zone. According to the Ministry of Defense, the experience of the first years of operation in the Northern Fleet of the newest icebreaker Ilya Muromets has been analyzed.
In addition, the crew of the multifunctional logistics vessel "Elbrus", which has an ice class, effectively performs tasks. Now the Admiralty Shipyards enterprise continues construction of the universal patrol ship of the Arctic zone "Ivan Papanin".
