Hong Kong. January 5th. INTERFAX - Three-day exercises of the local military have begun in Taiwan, within which combat aircraft will practice the skills of intercepting Chinese Air Force aircraft, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on Wednesday.
In accordance with the scenario of the exercises depicting a military conflict, F-16 fighter jets were lifted into the air from an air base in the city of Chiayi in southern Taiwan.
SCMP recalls that the aircraft of the PRC Air Force enter the air defense identification zone unilaterally declared by the Taiwan authorities with high frequency; in turn, aircraft from the base in Chiayi are often sent to escort the PRC Air Force.
"As for the very high activity of Communist aircraft flying into the air defense identification zone, the pilots of our air wing are very experienced and have dealt with almost all types of their (PRC - IF) aircraft," Major Yan Xiangsheng told reporters.
