Moscow. January 5th. INTERFAX - Rostec State Corporation plans to launch production of 76 MS-21 civil aircraft by 2027, Rostec Corporation CEO Sergey Chemezov said during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
According to Chemezov, in the coming year the first serial MS-21s will be released, still with an American Pratt & Whitney engine, but with a wing made in Russia from composite materials. The first 4 such aircraft will be transferred to the operators (Rossiya Airlines - IF) in 2022.
"In 2023 we will transfer 6 cars, in 2024 - 12, by 2025 we should reach 32 cars, in 2027 - 76 cars," he said.
In 2022-2023, tests of the MS-21 with a Russian-made engine will begin, and serial production of fully Russian-made aircraft will begin in 2024, Chemezov noted.
MS-21 is a family of medium-haul passenger aircraft created by Rostec enterprises. Certification and the launch of serial production of the basic modification of the MS-21-300 for 163-211 seats have been repeatedly postponed. One of the reasons was the US sanctions against Aerocomposite (part of Rostec), due to which the supply of composite materials for the MS-21 wing was banned. At the end of December 2021, the MS-21 received a basic type certificate.
Domestic materials for the wing were developed by Rosatom enterprises with the participation of MSU scientists. Wing consoles and center section are manufactured at Aerocomposite-Ulyanovsk. The share of composites in the MS-21 design, according to Rostec, is about 40%.
The MS-21 will be produced with American Pratt & Whitney engines and Russian PD-14. The start of serial deliveries of the MS-21 with an imported engine, according to the latest official data, is expected in 2022. The first recipient of the aircraft will be the Rossiya Airline, a member of the Aeroflot Group (MOEX: AFLT).
