Moscow. January 2. INTERFAX - More than a dozen warships of the Northern Fleet will perform tasks in the far sea zone in the first half of 2022, the press service of the SF reports.
"In 2022, the Northern Fleet will continue its active and purposeful activities to ensure a naval presence in operationally important areas of the World Ocean," said Alexander Moiseev, commander of the Northern Fleet, quoted by the press service.
According to the fleet headquarters, "only in the first half of the year, more than 10 combat ships of the first and second rank will perform their tasks in the far sea zone."
In 2021, about 30 long-distance trips were carried out to operationally important areas of the World Ocean, mainly to the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea, the press service noted.
They recalled that in October, the North Sea sailors ensured the safety of civilian shipping off the coast of Africa in the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean. The crew of the BOD "Vice Admiral Kulakov" inspected several civilian vessels and ensured the safe wiring of the Panamanian container ship "Lucia", preventing the capture by pirates of its crew, consisting of citizens of Ukraine, Russia and Romania.
The Northern Fleet is an interspecific strategic association of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation that protects the national interests of Russia, both in the Arctic and in other areas of the World Ocean. The Northern Fleet includes, in particular, strategic and multipurpose nuclear submarines, the heavy nuclear missile cruiser Peter the Great. The submarine forces of the Northern Fleet are considered the most powerful association of nuclear submarines of the Russian Navy.
