"The calendar year 2021 ended with successful missile firings of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Volkhov diesel-electric submarines, which for the first time in the Pacific Fleet used the Kalibr-PL high-precision missile system for coastal and sea targets," the press service said.
On December 21, the Russian military reported the launch of a Kalibr missile by the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky submarine. The shooting was conducted from an underwater position on a training target at a training ground near Cape Surkum (Khabarovsk Territory). The missile successfully hit a coastal target at a distance of more than 1 thousand kilometers, the TOPH reported.
The missile firing of the submarine "Volkhov" was not reported.
According to the fleet headquarters, on November 30, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Volkhov completed the transition from the Baltic Fleet to the main base of the Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok. For the Pacific Fleet, they are the first diesel-electric submarines capable of carrying high-precision cruise missiles of the Kalibr-NK and Kalibr-PL complexes (developed by the Novator Design Bureau, Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region).
In total, more than 10 missile firings took place in the Pacific Fleet in 2021, the press service said.
In particular, the flagship of the Pacific Fleet, the Varyag cruiser, fired a Vulcan cruise missile, and the Omsk nuclear submarine launched a Granit cruise missile from an underwater position - both missiles successfully hit the target at a distance of over 450 km.
In addition, for the first time after the modernization, the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate hit a ground target at a range of more than 100 km from the Sea of Japan with a Kalibr-NK cruise missile, and also destroyed an underwater target by launching a missile of the new anti-submarine complex "Answer".
"Missile launches of Mosquito cruise missiles made by missile boats of the Pacific Fleet were successfully carried out three times a year," the headquarters of the Pacific Fleet said.
According to the Navy, Malachite target missiles launched from small missile ships of the Pacific Fleet were used six times in 2021 to provide anti-aircraft missile firing.
Earlier, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy Nikolay Evmenov said that by 2024 the Pacific Fleet will receive six diesel submarines of the 636.3 project.
The first ship, the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, was transferred to the Navy on November 25, 2019. The Volkhov submarine, the second in the series, joined the Navy on October 24, 2020. On October 12, the Russian Navy handed over the third submarine of the project - the Magadan. Her transition to the TOP is expected next year.
The military reported that the fourth submarine of the Pacific series - Ufa - is forming a light hull, pipe and electrical work. The fifth and sixth submarines of the series - Mozhaysk and Yakutsk - were laid down at the Admiralty Shipyards in August 2021.
