In 2022, 21 launchers with Yars, Avangard and Sarmat missiles will be put on duty.
Moscow. January 1st. INTERFAX - More than 500 calculations of Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) celebrated the New Year on combat duty, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported on Saturday.
"More than 500 combat crews met New Year's Eve at combat posts. About 6 thousand people are on duty every day," the Information Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.
"In such a composition, the forces on duty are able to independently, without involving the main body of troops, continuously monitor the state of nuclear missile weapons, maintain them in readiness for use with guaranteed nuclear safety," the report says.
As reported, the basis of the RVSN grouping consists of modern Yars complexes in mine and mobile versions. "Yars" is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 11 thousand km, it is equipped with a separable head with maneuvering blocks of individual guidance.
In December 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the first missile regiment equipped with a new Russian strategic weapon - intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) with a hypersonic Avangard combat unit was put on combat duty near Orenburg.
Avangard is a new Russian strategic missile system with a hypersonic gliding winged combat unit developing a speed of about Mach 27 (Mach is the speed of sound). Developed at the Reutov NPO of Mechanical Engineering (Tactical Missile Armament Corporation, KTRV).
In 2022, the Russian military plans to complete the tests of the new Sarmat ICBM and begin putting it on combat duty. In parallel, the phased withdrawal of the most powerful mine-based strategic missile in the world, the Voevoda, will begin from combat.
"Starting from 2022, it is planned to gradually withdraw the Voevoda heavy-class stationary-based missile system from the RVSN grouping and replace it with the Sarmat," Sergei Karakaev, commander of the Russian RVSN, said on December 17.
