ROSTOV-ON-DON, January 1 - RIA Novosti. The coastal missile complex "Bal" of the Caspian Flotilla went on combat duty in Dagestan on New Year's holidays, the head of the press service of the Southern Military District Vadim Astafyev told reporters.
The military personnel of the Caspian Flotilla perform tasks to control the situation over territorial waters and strait zones, protect naval bases of the flotilla and other coastal facilities and infrastructure of the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea. Also, the tasks of the anti-ship complex include protecting the coast from possible enemy amphibious operations and protecting sea communications.
Astafyev noted that the combat use of the Bal missile system is provided in both simple and complex meteorological conditions during daytime and night hours with full autonomy of missile guidance after launch in conditions of electronic and fire resistance from the enemy.
During the preparation for admission to combat duty, the calculations of the coastal missile complex passed tests and conducted training. So, at the Adanak test site in Dagestan, rocket scientists performed tasks for detecting, tracking and classifying air and sea targets, transmitting data to launch positions for making a decision on the use of the complex.
The coastal missile system is a divisional-level military unit and consists of several (up to a dozen) vehicles on a four-axle high-terrain platform MAZ-7930.
