A number of projects are linked to combat training
Moscow. December 30. INTERFAX - Identification of underwater objects found at the bottom of the Barents and Kara Seas will be one of the main tasks of joint work with the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) in the Arctic region next year, the Northern Fleet (SF) said on Thursday,
"In 2022, as part of the implementation of the plans for expeditionary activities, the SF, together with the RGS, will continue to explore the Arctic. During the summer navigation period, vessels of the auxiliary fleet and the hydrographic service will be used for these purposes, which will perform a number of tasks in the area of the islands of Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya," the message says.
In particular, the complex expedition "Remember the War" will be continued jointly with the RGS. Its main goal will be to identify underwater objects discovered at the bottom of the Barents and Kara Seas in 2021.
"Based on the analysis of the results achieved, the idea of the Remember the War expedition to search for lost ships and vessels is recognized as worthy of attention and has prospects for further development. The activities carried out in it are well linked in meaning and content with the combat training of the fleet and are aimed at drawing lessons from the events that led to the death of ships and vessels of the Russian Navy and allies during the Great Patriotic War," the message says.
According to the SF, "thanks to the joint work of the North Sea residents with scientists and employees of the Russian Arctic and the Russian Arctic National Park, unique data on glaciology, biology and zoology, ecology and the history of the development of Arctic archipelagos have been obtained over several years of joint activity."
The commander of the SF Alexander Moiseev notes that "the annual complex expeditions of the Northern Fleet and the Russian Geographical Society to the Arctic have become a good tradition."
