MOSCOW, Dec 30 - RIA Novosti. The Russian Defense Ministry has taken on the supply of the latest Zavet-D artillery fire control vehicles for Airborne troops, an informed source told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that since 2019, the "Covenant" was supposed to enter the troops for testing.
Now, according to him, the issue of concluding a contract for the first batch is being worked out in order to start mass production in 2022 and "close the needs of the Airborne Forces in this type of equipment in a short time."
The complex "Zavet-D" was developed by the Penza enterprise "Rubin" of the holding "Roselectronics" (part of Rostec), it is intended to replace the mobile artillery reconnaissance and fire control station "Rheostat".
The machine has received the latest equipment that allows it to reliably detect and identify various targets, including disguised ones. In particular, the "Covenant-D" will provide a new level of interaction between artillery and drones of various classes.
"Thanks to this, the effectiveness of the use of airborne artillery units, which are armed with self-propelled guns 2S9 "Nona-S", 2S9-1 "Sviristelka", 2S9-1M "Nona-SM", and in the future - the latest 2S42 "Lotus", should increase," the source added.
