In Kaliningrad, the Baltic Shipbuilding Plant "Yantar" completed work on the repair and modernization of the Baltic Fleet patrol ship "Intrepid".
One of the most famous ships of the Baltic Fleet, the "Intrepid" was the first in the Russian Navy to carry out tasks to combat maritime piracy, ensuring the security of many countries in the Gulf of Aden since September 2008, and since then has been on anti-piracy watch in the Horn of Africa more than once.
The planned repair of the TFR started in 2014. According to the press service of the plant, the deadline for the completion of repairs was extended based on the results of a defect, which revealed a much larger amount of work than planned.
- The main work was carried out on updating the mechanical part of the ship, - said the responsible deliverer of the order, Alexander Androsov. - Afterburner engines have been repaired and re-installed. The armament and supporting mechanisms have been modernized.
The ship left the water area of the plant and moved to Baltiysk, where preparations for acceptance tests began. According to Alexander Androsov, several trips to the sea with a total duration of about 30 days are planned. During this time, all complexes and mechanisms will be tested, in particular, the main power plant and weapons systems.
The delivery team of the plant and the commission of the Baltic Fleet are working on board the "Intrepid", which must accept the ship after repair and modernization. Upon completion of sea trials, the TFR will be transferred to the Russian Navy and will return to service as part of the Baltic Fleet.
