TSAMTO, December 28. The Inspectorate for Armaments of the Polish Ministry of Defense announced the transfer to the Polish Armed Forces of the last batch of self-propelled short-range anti-aircraft missile systems "Poprad".
As reported, the transfer of the last 9 self-propelled SAMs took place on December 15 at the location of the 19th Lublin Mechanized Brigade. Thus, the contract concluded in December 2015 by the Weapons Inspectorate of the Polish Ministry of Defense with PIT-Radwar SA has been completed. At the moment, the Poprad air defense system has been delivered:
air Force training center,
4th anti-aircraft missile regiment,
8th anti-aircraft missile regiment,
12th mechanized brigade,
15th Gizhitsky Mechanized Brigade,
17th Wielkopolska Mechanized Brigade
20th mechanized brigade,
The 21st brigade of "Podgalsky riflemen",
The 19th Lublin Mechanized Brigade, part of which will be transferred to the 18th Anti-aircraft missile Regiment.
As reported by TSAMTO, in December 2015, the Weapons Inspectorate of the Polish Ministry of Defense signed a contract with the Polish company PIT-Radwar for the supply of short-range self-propelled sams "Poprad", as well as maintenance of the supplied equipment and training of personnel. The value of the agreement is estimated at 1.0835 billion. zloty ($273 million). According to the terms of the contract, the program should be implemented during 2018-2021. In total, 79 self-propelled SAMs were supposed to be put into service by the end of 2021, including 77 serial and two complexes modified from prototypes.
Deliveries of the SAM began in 2018. As of the end of 2020, 60 complexes have been delivered. Taking into account the statement on the completion of the program, 19 SAMs were delivered to the Polish Armed Forces in 2021.
The self-propelled SAM is designed to detect, identify and destroy air targets at short range and low altitudes. The Poprad self-propelled SAM launcher is placed on the chassis of the Zubr-P BBM (Zubr-P) with a 4x4 wheel formula manufactured by the Polish military mechanical plant AMZ-Kutno and is equipped with a launcher module with four Grom (or Perun) missiles manufactured by MESKO S.A, an optoelectronic target detection system with EO/IR cameras providing automatic tracking and target capture, a laser rangefinder and an IKZ-02 interrogator of the identification system " your-someone else's" Suprasl of PIT-Radwar company. The ammunition of the complex includes 8 missiles. The maximum range of destruction of the targets of the SAM "Thunder" is 5.5 km, the maximum height of destruction is 3500 m.
The system can operate autonomously, detecting, accompanying and hitting maneuvering air targets, as well as as part of a layered air defense system, using information from other sources.
