Defense Express: tests of the Sturm-SM self-propelled ATGM are planned to be completed in 2022
The State Kiev Design Bureau (GKKB) "Luch" plans to complete state tests of the self-propelled anti-tank missile system (ATGM) "Sturm-SM" in 2022. This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian enterprise Oleg Korostelev [...] in an interview with Defense Express.
"Sturm-SM has successfully passed preliminary tests. And all that is needed now is to complete the state tests. As I know, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has included this work in the state defense order for 2022. At the same time, it is well known that now inclusion in the State Budget provides for a rather long approval process. However, we hope that next year Sturm-SM will complete state tests," the head of the Luch State Design Bureau said.
The publication notes that the tests of the Sturm-SM complex began in 2020. The Ukrainian development is based on the Soviet complex "Sturm-S". The upgraded vehicle received a new sighting system, ammunition with a tandem warhead and an upgraded fire control system.
Previously, the General designer of the Engineering Design Bureau (KBM, part of the holding "High-Precision Complexes" of the Rostec State Corporation) Valery Kashin spoke about the modernization of the Chrysanthemum self-propelled ATGM missile. The ammunition is adapted for use as part of helicopter armament.
In November, military expert Viktor Murakhovsky stressed that the Chrysanthemum-S complex is the most advanced Russian ATGM. He noted that the ammunition of the complex ensures the defeat of modern tanks.
