The National Interest: the missile-carrying cruiser "Prince Oleg" is capable of destroying cities
The underwater missile-carrying cruiser "Prince Oleg" is capable of turning entire cities into ruins. This fear was expressed by journalist Peter Suciu in an article for the magazine The National Interest .
It is noted that this cruiser represents the fourth generation of nuclear submarines with Borei-class ballistic missiles (Project 955A) in the service of the Russian Navy. The first submarine of this class, the Prince Vladimir, was commissioned in the summer of 2020 and transferred to the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy.
The author of the material drew attention to the fact that, like nuclear submarines with ballistic missiles in the service of the United States, China, France, Great Britain and India, the main purpose of the Borei-class submarines is to destroy enemy cities, even if other nuclear forces are knocked out by the first strike. At the same time, Suchiu stressed that at the moment the Russian Navy has four strategic missile submarines of Project 955/955A in service. In addition, three more submarines of Project 955A are at various stages of construction at the Sevmash shipyard.
Earlier it became known that two strategic missile submarines of Project 955A (Borey-A) will be laid down at the Sevmash enterprise in 2023.
