Moscow. December 24. INTERFAX - Concern Uralvagonzavod (UVZ, Rostec) has mastered the production of new T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks, said the head of UVZ Alexander Potapov.
"On the subject of special products, I will note the successful development of the production of T-90M "Breakthrough" tanks. Yes, it was difficult, but the plant was rebuilt. We are already supplying these machines to the army," Potapov said at a solemn meeting dedicated to summing up the results of the concern's work in 2021.
On February 23, the UVZ informed Interfax that the concern had begun serial deliveries of the T-90M to the Russian military. "These are long-term contracts for a large number of cars," the UVZ said at the time.
The T-90M is the latest modification of the Russian T-90 main battle tank.
On April 13, 2020, the press service of the Western Military District (ZVO) reported that the first T-90M was received by the Taman Division near Moscow (part of the First Tank Army).
In March of this year, eight T-90M entered the Sevastopol Motorized Rifle Brigade (1st Tank Army of the ZVO), the press service of the ZVO reported.
"The T-90M is the most advanced machine in the T-90 family. Its creation is a big step in the development of the Russian tank industry. In particular, the new model implements a complex of inter-object interaction, the tank is able to operate in the conditions of modern network-centric combat operations," the head of the UVZ told Interfax earlier.
"The reliability of all types of equipment and equipment has been significantly increased: even if the fire control system fails or if there is no power supply from the on-board network, the tank will not fail," Potapov said.
The T-90M is equipped with a new combat turret module with a powerful 125 mm tank gun, which ensures the use of new high-efficiency ammunition, as well as a guided missile that allows destroying enemy tanks at a range of up to 5 km. The high speed characteristics of the T-90M tank, fuel efficiency and power reserve are provided by a diesel engine with a capacity of 1130 hp, the press service of the ZVO noted.
In 2018, Yuri Borisov, as Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation (now Deputy Prime Minister), said that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation intends to purchase about 200 tanks annually.
