The airborne forces will also receive an amphibious air defense system "Birdman" with two types of missiles
Moscow. December 24. INTERFAX - Work on the modification of the Pantsir air defense system for Ground and Airborne troops will be completed in 2022, said the head of the military air defense of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Alexander Leonov.
"A modification of the Pantsir-SM-SV on a tracked chassis for the Ground Forces and Airborne Forces is being developed. The complex will have two types of anti-aircraft guided missiles and have an enlarged zone of destruction. Both works are planned to be completed in 2022," Leonov said in an interview with the Russian Defense Ministry newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.
"Pantsir-S" is a modern short-range anti-aircraft missile and cannon complex (developed by Shipunov Instrument Design Bureau, NPO High-Precision Complexes Holding, Rostec). The complex is in service with the Russian army and is exported.
Leonov said that an anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) "Birdman" is being developed for actions directly on the front line. He will have two types of missiles with different guidance methods: homing by thermal radiation of the target and guided by a laser beam, the general said.
