The network published a photo showing the body of a railway locomotive, which was put on a car chassis or car wheels.
This project in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation was conceived in 1999. At the same time, the work concerning such "crossing" was carried out in 2002-2003. The project with drawings was developed by scientists and engineers of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.
The work was carried out on the basis of the NIII-21 of the city of Bronnitsa. NIII is engaged in works related to the suspension of wheeled/tracked vehicles for army needs.
The basis of this transport is the DM62 diesel locomotive. The donor of the chassis was a rocket launcher based on the "Hurricane", with an increased track width. An individual drive is designed for each of the twelve wheels. The device was equipped with hydraulic steering.
In the photo you can see the side boxes, which housed the battery and special containers for technical fluid. Fuel tanks were installed under the frame.
In 2003, this Russian equipment was supposed to go to tests as part of a military training ground near Bronnitsy. However, this did not happen, as some shortcomings of transport were identified. The meaning of the construction of this device remains a mystery for many. Experts believe that we are talking about a purely experimental machine. According to the second version, the military needed a mobile power plant.
As a result, this project was not funded in the future. Thus, the program was closed. The wheeled diesel locomotive stood until 2011, writes Car.ru .
