The Southern Military District (SE) has noticeably increased its combat potential by creating new divisions and military units, the commander of the troops of the SE, Alexander Dvornikov, told reporters on Tuesday during the final board of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"The combat potential of the Southern Military District was quite impressive before. But now it has increased markedly due to the formation of new formations and military units," Dvornikov said.
According to him, "the 19th Motorized Rifle Division has been recreated as part of the 58th Combined Arms Army, the 8th Combined Arms Army has been reinforced with rocket and artillery brigades. The military units of the newly formed 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division have begun combat training, the 49th Combined Arms Army has been replenished with electronic warfare, radiation, chemical and biological protection units."
Equipping troops
Dvornikov said that equipping the troops of the Southern Military District with the latest weapons is taking into account the difficult military-political situation in the region.
"Taking into account the difficult military-political situation in the area of responsibility of the Southern Military District, the leadership of the military department attaches priority importance to the issues of equipping and rearming troops. At the moment, the share of the latest and modernized samples of the VVST (weapons of military and special equipment - approx. TASS) in the district's troops has reached 71%," the commander of the Southern Military District said.
According to him, "only last year, more than 1.5 thousand units of the latest VVST samples were received by the formations and military units of the Southern Military District."
"As part of the state defense order of 2021, Ka-52 helicopters and Su-25SM3 aircraft equipped with the latest sighting kits were delivered to the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Federal District. Parts of the anti-aircraft missile forces have adopted the state-of-the-art anti-aircraft missile system S-350 "Vityaz", at the same time, the process of rearmament to the modernized anti-aircraft missile system S-300PM2 is underway," Dvornikov said.
