Repair and preparation for the museum of the submarine K-3 "Leninsky Komsomol" are being started at the Kronstadt Marine Plant. She was put in the dock. Mitrofanova, the press service of the United Shipbuilding Corporation reports.
Recall that in the autumn of this year, the Leninsky Komsomol made an inter-fleet transition from the Northern Fleet, where it was in service, to Kronstadt. At the marine plant, the compartments will be deconservated, waste will be removed, the submarine hull will be examined and restored. One of the important stages will be the installation of support blocks on which the historical submarine will be installed as an exhibit of the Museum of Military Glory in Kronstadt.
As the USC added, this is not the first experience of working with museum ships for the Kronstadt Plant. The Aurora cruiser was restored here, the Krasin icebreaker was repaired, and the Irbensky Lighthouse was prepared for museumification.
Leninsky Komsomol is the first Soviet and the third nuclear submarine in the world. She was laid down on September 24, 1955 in Severodvinsk, launched on August 9, 1957. In 1991, the submarine was withdrawn from the Northern Fleet. They wanted to dispose of it, but then decided to keep it as a museum.
